What does leading with passionate, personal engagement mean?

In this vlog we ask Andy Brown, Managing Director at Taylor’s of Harrogate what he believes leading with passionate, personal engagement is, and for Andy it’s about building strong relationships, engaging with people, and really appreciating the power of the team where relationships are strong.

A transcript of this film is below:

So one one thing I've learned over the years of being a leader is that you don't have all the answers and therefore it's really important to engage with people throughout the the organization, whoever they are, and that means more listening .

Quite often I will I spend a lot of time with people either in one to one or in groups, asking them questions, trying to understand what it's like from their perspective, so they'll get more insight of what it's like being in the organization, what needs to change, and what's going well.

Particularly over the years I've worked with my team to build a strong team where the relationships are the most important thing, so that we're working together, we all know each other, we know our strengths we know our weaknesses, and we know what we do better together, and we know what we do better apart. And once you've got that relationship, then you can achieve anything together.

There’s something about a team - the power of a team - is that you do things better together. And when you know each other, whether it's a difficult issue you're working through, or whether it's something you all agree on, it can be really powerful.

When you're all as one, and you know each other well, that's a really important part of leadership as well.
