Feeling well connected to colleagues
Oasis Associates Jane Bytheway and Sarah Bryson facilitate the Oasis Skills for Change programme and in the short film above they talk about the need for feeling well connected to colleagues. A transcript of the film is below:
So from the work we do we know that teams that work well together get stuff done because they have effective working relationships and they're more productive it makes a huge difference, doesn't it?
Have you ever been invited to a meeting and you look at who else is going to be there maybe your heart sinks because you know that one of those “mood hoovers” is going to be in the room and you just go “oh”…
Yes, absolutely, I really have, and I've also noticed that it has a real ripple effect on the rest of the team and the people who are in the meeting, and because people who work more effectively together get more stuff done, and when you've got that “move hoover” in the room, it just stops the work from progressing.
Somebody needs to be able to give feedback to that person to help them to see that actually the way they're contributing to the meeting is not maybe so helpful and yes, it just has a huge impact on the productivity of a team, definitely.
